A semiconductor material has an electrical conductivity value falling between that of a conductor (like copper, gold) and an insulator (such as glass), and its resistance decreases with increasing temperature (this is contrary to the behavior of the metal). Under different conditions, the conductivity of the semiconductor can be very different, so semiconductor electronic components are often used in the control circuits. For example, the state of the output circuit od the solid state relay can be switched by control the semiconductor component with the control signal.
